I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger, May you never take one single breath for granted, GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin', Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin', Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to sellin' out reconsider, Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along, Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance.. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)
Move yourself [We have to make and keep our commitments to get out of ruts. See blog posts Commitment and I Love Crazy] You always live your life Never thinking of the future [But some of us do the opposite--live our lives never enjoying the moment. I think it's a balance.]
Prove yourself You are the move you make Take your chances win or loser [Use our Agency!]
See yourself You are the steps you take You and you, and that's the only way [We know that it is not all about me, myself and I, yet when we focus on the topic of Agency, our God-give gift to choose who we are, what we will become, who we will be with, and how close we will live near God, we must understand that now is the time to make a choice!]
Shake, shake yourself [Wake up.] You're every move you make So the story goes ["O that ye would awake; awake from a deep sleep, yea, even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the awful chains by which ye are bound, which are the chains which bind the children of men, that they are carried away captive down to the eternal gulf of misery and woe." ~2 Nephi 1:13 "Behold, he changed their hearts; yea, he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word; yea, they were encircled about by the bands of death, and the chains of hell, and an everlasting destruction did await them." ~Alma 5:7]
Chorus Owner of a lonely heart Owner of a lonely heart Much better than a Owner of a broken heart Owner of a lonely heart [It's about living our lives, risking our hearts to enter into relationships instead of avoiding them in fear of getting hurt. Be wise but if it breaks, it breaks. "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." ~Psalms 34:18]
Say - you don't want to chance it You've been hurt so before Watch it now The eagle in the sky [I imagine this as Christ. He is the eagle in the sky that we need to watch. "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." ~Isaiah 53:5-6] How he dancin' one and only
You, lose yourself ["For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it." ~Luke 9:24] No not for pity's sake [So well said! "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." ~Matthew 6:16] There's no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself Give your free will a chance You've got to want to succeed [!] Repeat Chorus
After my own indecision [Don't doubt. Make a choice. "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not." ~D&C 6:36] They confused me so Owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all [Trust your heart. Listen to the Holy Ghost. "Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart." ~D&C 8:2] In the end you've got to go Look before you leap Owner of a lonely heart And don't you hesitate at all - no no ["Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me. But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right. But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong;" ~D&C 9:7-9]
Repeat Chorus
Sooner or later each conclusion Will decide the lonely heart Owner of a lonely heart It will excite it will delight It will give a better start Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all [Don't fill yourself with substances or other forms of Pseudo Peace that will just blind you to your true needs. This is the day we're supposed to work out our salvation within the bounds the Lord has set. See blog post Real or Pseudo: Which do you Choose? and Do I Have Room in My Inn?] Don't deceive your free will at all Owner of a lonely heart Don't deceive your free will at all Just receive it ["And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed." ~Alma 34:33]
["But behold, your days of probation are past; ye have procrastinated the day of your salvation until it is everlastingly too late, and your destruction is made sure; yea, for ye have sought all the days
of your lives for that which ye could not obtain; and ye have sought
for happiness in doing iniquity, which thing is contrary to the nature
of that righteousness which is in our great and Eternal Head." ~Helaman 13:38]
I was born in Tennessee Late July humidity Doctor said I was lucky to be alive
I've been trouble since the day that I got here Trouble till the day that I disappear That'll be the day that I finally get it right
Chorus There is hope for me yet Because God won't forget All the plans he's made for me I have to wait and see He's not finished with me yet He’s not finished with me yet
I never really was that good in school I talked too much, broke the rules Teacher thought I was hopeless fool alright
I don't know how but I made it through It's one of those things that you've gotta do But I always had a knack for telling the truth
Repeat Chorus Still wondering why I'm here Still wrestling with my fear But oh, He's up to something And the farther on I go I've seen enough to know That I'm, not here for nothing He's up to something
So now's my time to be a man [or a woman] Follow my heart as far as I can No telling where I'm ending up tonight I never slow down or so it seems But singing my heart it's one of my dreams All I gotta do is hold on tight
I have been listening to this song on my iPod for several years now. It has been so applicable as I've turned to the Lord to retrain me. I remember going into the kitchen to wash the dishes and do meal prep after a day of studying with him. This song would come on and it was singing the same song I was: "Whatever you do, I'll do it too! Show me everything, tell me how."
Whatever you do, I'll do it too
Show me everything and tell me how
It all means something
And yet nothing to me [And yet everything to me]
I can see there's so much to learn
It's all so close and yet so far
I see myself as people see me [I spin this to: I see myself as my Savior and my spouse see me.]
Oh, I just know there's something bigger out there
Chorus I wanna know, can you show me
I wanna know about these
strangers like me
Tell me more, please show me
Something's familiar about these strangers like me
Every gesture, every move that she makes
Makes me feel like never before
Why do I have
This growing need to be beside her
Ooo, these emotions I never knew
Of some other world far beyond this place
Beyond the trees, above the clouds
I see before me a new horizon
Repeat Chorus
Come with me now to see my world
Where there's beauty beyond your dreams
Can you feel the things I feel
Right now, with you
Take my hand
There's a world I need to know
I have started a Soulmates Marriage blog so if you are following that, you'll understand how this song spins very well with the points I'm making there. I've used the title of this song for the title of Chapter 39. That Chapter is about learning to "dance" in balance with our spouse and when we get out of balance we need to rebalance ASAP. I have this song on my iPod. It is a remake by another artist done for one of my aerobic workout CDs (from when I used to teach). Of course I also used to listen to it when it came out in the 80s but I've gotten so used to the version on my iPod that I prefer that one. But this one will due for now. The part I like to listen to and spin are the following lyrics. My interpretation (spin the lyrics) in [blue].
The politics of dancing [There are rules to the Soulmates Marriage Game.] The politics of, ooh, feeling good [There are rules that both spouses need to play by to obtain Sustainable Joy and Attraction within marriage] The politics of moving, aha [Marriage is like a dance. Both spouses need to move and work together in balance, not only romantically as this song implies but in their responsibilities and commitments to each other, to God, and to their children.] Is this message understood? [That's what I'm asking!]
We're under pressure [Yes, because there are rules. There is a challenge involved. Mercy does not rob Justice (Alma 42:25).] Yes we're counting on you [Sustainable love is about keeping commitments.] It's not what you say [We don't just make commitments...] Is what you do [We also keep them.] ... Oh, the application [We don't just make a one time marriage commitment and that's it. Nothing sustainable is going to come from that. We need to apply that overall commitment to our daily commitments in our thoughts, words, and actions when people are watching and when they are not watching. That's the application of love. That's the politics of dancing.] ... Well you know you can't stop it When they start to play [We can't make attraction to our spouse happen just by
willing it. We have to play by the rules. Sustainable Attraction is an
ongoing effect that occurs when we stay balanced with God and our spouse.] You gotta get out the way [Seriously, we don't want to mess with God, the Father and his Justice. We don't want to take his Son's name (Mercy) in vain either (Exodus 20:7).]
This song is from the movie RM, which is mainly a comedy but in part of it they play this song to represent the need for the MC to repent. Repenting is just about going back to obeying God's commandments.
