Strangers Like Me - Phil Collins (Disney's Tarzan)

[This is another song that basically sang what was in my heart when I was learning who Jesus Christ was on a level I had never gone to before.]

Whatever you do

I'll do it too

Show me everything

And tell me how

It all means something

And yet nothing [EVERYTHING] to me

I can see there is so much to learn

It's all so close

And yet so far

I see myself

As people [He] see[s] me

Oh I just know there's something bigger out there[!

Chorus

I want to know, can you show me

I want to know about these strangers like me

Tell me more, please show me

Something's familiar

About these strangers like me

Every gesture

Every move that she [He] makes

Makes me feel like never before

Why do I have this growing need to be beside her [Him]

Oh these emotions I never knew

Of some other world far beyond this place

Beyond the trees, above the clouds

Oh I see before me a new horizon

Repeat Chorus

Come with me now

To see my world

Where there's beauty beyond your dreams

Can you feel the things I feel right now with you

Take my hand

There's a world I need to know

Repeat Chorus

I want to know

Love is the Answer by England Dan & John Ford Coley

Name your price
A ticket to paradise
I can't stay here any more
And i've looked high and low
I've been from shore to shore to shore
If there's a short cut i'd have found it
But there's no easy way around it

LIGHT OF THE WORLD, shine on me
[His] Love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free
[His] Love is the answer

Who knows why
Someday we all must die
We're all homeless boys and girls [Spiritually when we separate from him or if we have not yet developed a close enough relationship to him, we feel this way.]
And we are never heard [We ARE heard. The question is, are we hearing Him or numbing/scattering ourselves to our ability to sense his presence by reaching for Pseudo forms of Peace?]
It's such a lonely world [Yeah, it really can be.]
People turn their heads and walk on by [Okay, but what do we do? Because we develop our relationship with Jesus Christ, we can be the first ones to reach out to others.  Kindness starts with me.]
Tell me, is it worth just another try?

Tell me, are we alive, or just a dying planet? [Planet--Zion Community--Peace on Earth--Sustainable Joy for all who desire it. Is this an impossible goal to achieve?]
What are the chances? [Can we really prepare ourselves to receive our Savior in his Second Coming? Will we be ready for him?]
Ask the man in your heart for the answers

And when you feel afraid, love one another [Learn what it means to love like Christ loves. It's about being obedient to his commandments, both generally and in the specific situations we find ourselves. It's not always about continuously giving hand-outs. Sometimes it's about withholding them (I know that's the case with my own children). When we listen to the Spirit, we are personally directed to know what to do for each child of God we are interacting with.]
When you've lost your way, love one another
When you're all alone, love one another
When you're far from home, love one another
When you're down and out, love one another
All your hope's run out, love one another
When you need a friend, love one another
When you're near the end, love one another
We got to love one another

LIGHT OF THE WORLD, you got to shine
[His] Love will be a means, yeah, yeah
Shine on us all
Know that [His] love can save the day
Just give it one more chance
Lord you just can't let it stop lord [He won't let it stop but we need to be willing to keep his commandments in order to receive this love, in order to pass on this love. It's a covenant relationship because there is an overall purpose to enable us to grow, to become more like him. It's not just about what we can receive. Peace is good. But it's also about what we become--the development of our ability to sacrifice. When we combine receiving with the appropriate level of sacrificing, we experience Joy!]
[His] Love is the answer
Got to be free to let love into your life [The truth will make us free. Loving in truth is the way Christ loves. It's not about Willy-Nilly frenzy loving. There is an order to all things. When we learn this order from the Lord and change our hearts, thoughts, words, and actions to align with it, we are set free.]
Let it shine

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing - Leo Sayer

You've got a cute way of talking
You got the better of me
Just snap your fingers and I'm walking
Like a dog hanging on your lead
I'm in a spin you know
Shaking on string you know

Chorus
You make me feel like dancing
I'm gonna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing
I'm gonna dance the night away
You make feel like dancing
I feel like dancing
Dancing, dance the night away
I feel like dancing, dancing, aaaah

Quarter to four in the morning
I ain't feeling tired no, no, no, no, no
Just hold me tight and leave on the light
'Cause I don't want to go home
You put a spell on me
I'm right where you want me to be

Repeat Chorus

You take me higher
I'm gonna catch on fire 'cause

Repeat Chorus

You really slipped me a potion
I can't get off of the floor
All this perpetual motion
You gotta give me some more
You gotta give me some more
And if you'll let me stay we'll dance our lives away

Repeat Chorus

I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR by Fernando Ortega

Have I Done Any Good

amy grant - All I Ever Have to Be - The Collection

♫ The Rising - Jimi Westbrook

Johanna Jones - Peacegiver

Amy Grant - Big Yellow Taxi

This song is a metaphor about Effects. "Paradise" is the real Effect. "Paving paradise" is what we do when we yield to all the distractions, amusements, and indulgences that numb our Effect Sensors so we can't feel real Peace and real Energy anymore. These pseudo forms of Peace and Energy disconnect us and blind us to our real Desires. The most likely reason we start depending on them in the first place is because we feel so much sorrow about not obtaining our Desires, not knowing how to obtain them, and not believing it's possible to obtain them.

Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy

There're some good messages in this song.  Sometimes we get all worked up over adversity and conflict and listening to this song reminds us to take a chill pill.  But even though this song might be fun to listen to, its counsel is useless without figuring out what we need to do and receive to be happy. No one can just be happy upon command.  Otherwise we would all be happy.  We actually have to figure out how to obtain happiness.  I'm not saying it's all works.  I'm saying it is a balance between grace and works and we need to use our agency to figure that balance out.  But the real chill pill that works before we can actually figure everything out is this:

"Be still and know that I am God." ~Psalms 46:10

Tangled - Something That I Want (HD)

She's a girl with the best intentions
He's a man of his own invention
She looked out the window
He walked out the door
But she followed him
And he said, "What'cha lookin' for?"

["Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour." ~John 1:38-39]

Chorus
She said, I want something that I want; [Another way of saying I want my Inherent Desire.]
Something that I tell myself I need [Same.]
Something that I want
And I need everything I see. [I need everything I see in him.]

something that I want
something that I tell myself I need
something that I want
and I need everything I see

[I need everything I see in him. This is a crucial change.  If we need everything we see, we will never obtain anything.  But what we're saying in this love song is that everything that this person is, is what we desire.  In essence, he fills us completely.  He is the answer for us.  When we're with him, we experience Sustainable Joy to the level of our satisfaction.  We can spin this song too.  It talks about a person we are attracted to and want to marry and that is a common Inherent Desire that each of us has.  But another Inherent Desire could be a specific religion, a specific pathway we feel strongly about going down, or a specific place we want to live.  It can mean any Desire that we feel strongly about.  We can also spin it to mean our Savior Jesus Christ.  We are all in a love story with him.  When we choose him to be our Cause, our Leader, our Counselor, our Governor, our King, we are saying this is what we need in order to obtain the kind of society or country that will be sustainably balanced.  We choose him out of love.  We know he knows best how to govern people in his Mercy so that agency is retained and Inherent Desires can be achieved.

"He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled." ~John 3:29

"For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee." ~Isaiah 62:5]

He's been livin' in a pure illusion
["For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, the time is soon at hand that I shall come in a cloud with power and great glory." ~D&C 34:7]
She's gonna come to her own conclusion
["...choose you this day whom ye will serve...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." ~Joshua 24:15]
Right when you think you know what to say
Someone comes along and shows you a brand new way

Repeat Chorus
'cause

It's so easy to make believe,
it seems you're livin' in a dream
Don't you see that what you need
is standing in front of you?

Repeat Chorus

I Hope You Dance - Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.

I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)

Owner of a Lonely Heart - Yes

Move yourself [We have to make and keep our commitments to get out of ruts. See blog posts Commitment and I Love Crazy]
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future [But some of us do the opposite--live our lives never enjoying the moment.  I think it's a balance.]

Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser [Use our Agency!]

See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you, and that's the only way [We know that it is not all about me, myself and I, yet when we focus on the topic of Agency, our God-give gift to choose who we are, what we will become, who we will be with, and how close we will live near God, we must understand that now is the time to make a choice!]

Shake, shake yourself [Wake up.]
You're every move you make
So the story goes

["O that ye would awake; awake from a deep sleep, yea, even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the awful chains by which ye are bound, which are the chains which bind the children of men, that they are carried away captive down to the eternal gulf of misery and woe." ~2 Nephi 1:13
"Behold, he changed their hearts; yea, he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word; yea, they were encircled about by the bands of death, and the chains of hell, and an everlasting destruction did await them." ~Alma 5:7]

Chorus
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

[It's about living our lives, risking our hearts to enter into relationships instead of avoiding them in fear of getting hurt.  Be wise but if it breaks, it breaks.  "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." ~Psalms 34:18]

Say - you don't want to chance it
You've been hurt so before

Watch it now
The eagle in the sky [I imagine this as Christ.  He is the eagle in the sky that we need to watch.  "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." ~Isaiah 53:5-6]
How he dancin' one and only

You, lose yourself ["For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it." ~Luke 9:24]
No not for pity's sake [So well said! "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." ~Matthew 6:16]
There's no real reason to be lonely

Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
You've got to want to succeed [!]

Repeat Chorus

After my own indecision [Don't doubt.  Make a choice. "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not." ~D&C 6:36]
They confused me so
Owner of a lonely heart

My love said never question your will at all [Trust your heart.  Listen to the Holy Ghost.  "Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart." ~D&C 8:2]
In the end you've got to go
Look before you leap
Owner of a lonely heart
And don't you hesitate at all - no no

["Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me. But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right. But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong;" ~D&C 9:7-9]

Repeat Chorus

Sooner or later each conclusion
Will decide the lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start
Owner of a lonely heart

Don't deceive your free will at all [Don't fill yourself with substances or other forms of Pseudo Peace that will just blind you to your true needs.  This is the day we're supposed to work out our salvation within the bounds the Lord has set.  See blog post Real or Pseudo:  Which do you Choose? and Do I Have Room in My Inn?]
Don't deceive your free will at all
Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all
Just receive it

["And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed." ~Alma 34:33]

["But behold, your days of probation are past; ye have procrastinated the day of your salvation until it is everlastingly too late, and your destruction is made sure; yea, for ye have sought all the days of your lives for that which ye could not obtain; and ye have sought for happiness in doing iniquity, which thing is contrary to the nature of that righteousness which is in our great and Eternal Head." ~Helaman 13:38]

Brandon Heath - Wait And See

I was born in Tennessee
Late July humidity
Doctor said I was lucky to be alive

I've been trouble since the day that I got here
Trouble till the day that I disappear
That'll be the day that I finally get it right

Chorus
There is hope for me yet
Because God won't forget
All the plans he's made for me
I have to wait and see
He's not finished with me yet
He’s not finished with me yet

I never really was that good in school
I talked too much, broke the rules
Teacher thought I was hopeless fool alright

I don't know how but I made it through
It's one of those things that you've gotta do
But I always had a knack for telling the truth

Repeat Chorus
Still wondering why I'm here
Still wrestling with my fear
But oh, He's up to something
And the farther on I go
I've seen enough to know
That I'm, not here for nothing
He's up to something

So now's my time to be a man [or a woman]
Follow my heart as far as I can
No telling where I'm ending up tonight
I never slow down or so it seems
But singing my heart it's one of my dreams
All I gotta do is hold on tight

Repeat Chorus

Tarzan - Strangers Like Me

I have been listening to this song on my iPod for several years now.  It has been so applicable as I've turned to the Lord to retrain me.  I remember going into the kitchen to wash the dishes and do meal prep after a day of studying with him.  This song would come on and it was singing the same song I was:  "Whatever you do, I'll do it too!  Show me everything, tell me how."

Whatever you do, I'll do it too
Show me everything and tell me how
It all means something
And yet nothing to me [And yet everything to me]

I can see there's so much to learn
It's all so close and yet so far
I see myself as people see me [I spin this to:  I see myself as my Savior and my spouse see me.]
Oh, I just know there's something bigger out there

Chorus
I wanna know, can you show me
I wanna know about these
strangers like me
Tell me more, please show me
Something's familiar about these strangers like me

Every gesture, every move that she makes
Makes me feel like never before
Why do I have
This growing need to be beside her

Ooo, these emotions I never knew
Of some other world far beyond this place
Beyond the trees, above the clouds
I see before me a new horizon

Repeat Chorus

Come with me now to see my world
Where there's beauty beyond your dreams
Can you feel the things I feel
Right now, with you
Take my hand
There's a world I need to know

Repeat Chorus

The Politics of Dancing by The Re-Flex

I have started a Soulmates Marriage blog so if you are following that, you'll understand how this song spins very well with the points I'm making there.  I've used the title of this song for the title of Chapter 39.  That Chapter is about learning to "dance" in balance with our spouse and when we get out of balance we need to rebalance ASAP.  I have this song on my iPod.  It is a remake by another artist done for one of my aerobic workout CDs (from when I used to teach).  Of course I also used to listen to it when it came out in the 80s but I've gotten so used to the version on my iPod that I prefer that one.  But this one will due for now.  The part I like to listen to and spin are the following lyrics. My interpretation (spin the lyrics) in [blue].

The politics of dancing [There are rules to the Soulmates Marriage Game.]
The politics of, ooh, feeling good [There are rules that both spouses need to play by to obtain Sustainable Joy and Attraction within marriage]
The politics of moving, aha [Marriage is like a dance.  Both spouses need to move and work together in balance, not only romantically as this song implies but in their responsibilities and commitments to each other, to God, and to their children.]
Is this message understood? [That's what I'm asking!]

We're under pressure [Yes, because there are rules. There is a challenge involved.  Mercy does not rob Justice (Alma 42:25).]
Yes we're counting on you [Sustainable love is about keeping commitments.]
It's not what you say [We don't just make commitments...]
Is what you do [We also keep them.]
...
Oh, the application [We don't just make a one time marriage commitment and that's it.  Nothing sustainable is going to come from that.  We need to apply that overall commitment to our daily commitments in our thoughts, words, and actions when people are watching and when they are not watching.  That's the application of love.  That's the politics of dancing.]
...
Well you know you can't stop it
When they start to play
[We can't make attraction to our spouse happen just by willing it.  We have to play by the rules.  Sustainable Attraction is an ongoing effect that occurs when we stay balanced with God and our spouse.]
You gotta get out the way [Seriously, we don't want to mess with God, the Father and his Justice.  We don't want to take his Son's name (Mercy) in vain either (Exodus 20:7).]

Go Back by SweetHaven

This song is from the movie RM, which is mainly a comedy but in part of it they play this song to represent the need for the MC to repent. Repenting is just about going back to obeying God's commandments.

Find Your Way Back by Jefferson Starship

I have this song on my iPod.  It represents a message of repentance to me.  Repentance has such a bad wrap.  But the real message is to come home to God.

Amy Grant - Who To Listen To

Starts With Goodbye by Carrie Underwood

Can't Take It In by Imogen Heap

[This is the way I felt when I first started to really get to know and worship Jesus Christ. We had the CD for this Soundtrack and so the song was on my iPod. When I heard it, I realized it exactly described how I was feeling.]

Can't close my eyes [Pop go my eyes]
They're wide awake
Every hair on my body
Has got a thing for this place
Oh, empty my heart
I've got to make room for this feeling
So much bigger than me

It cannot be any more beautiful
I can't take it in

Weightless in love, unraveling
For all that's to come
And all that's ever been
We're back to the board
With every shade under the sun
Let's make it a good one [world]

It cannot be any more beautiful
It cannot be any more beautiful
I can't take it in
... All that I wonder
All that I ever need
Whoa
All that I wonder
So beautiful
